Why I Became A Driving Instructor

Back in 2009 I was working as a HGV driver, where early starts and long hours were the norm, but the money was good and I enjoyed driving. In the July of 2009 my fiancée and I found out that we were expecting our 1st child, Brooke. After the initial excitement, I started to realise with my job and my long hours I would unfortunately miss a lot of those special moments! First walk, first word, and special performances in those school plays!

Then one morning when I was driving my lorry, I saw a Driving Instructor dropping his kids of at school and thought ‘how lucky he was to be able to do that’! As the day went on I kept thinking how I would actually enjoy that job and be able to pick my own working hours…after that day I never looked back!

I’m Not Alone

I’m Not Alone! Over the last 6 years I have had lots of meeting with people that have very similar stories to mine and wanted a solution.

I have met with people from all different backgrounds and jobs, but they all have one thing in common, they all felt they were owned by their jobs and had no work/life balance.

New Start

When I went to work on my first day as a qualified driving instructor, I knew I would be home later that day to see my family, as it was me who had organised my diary and what hours I was working that week.

For the last 11 years I have been completely in control of my working hours and choosing holidays when I want to, not asking for approval.

Everyday I have job satisfaction in seeing my student’s progress and seeing them come from a novice, to passing their test is massively rewarding!
