What's It Really Like?

Thinking about a new career is a very exciting venture, although it is vital to do your research thoroughly before making a big life changing decision.

Our Training course is of the very highest standard, we believe you won’t find any better and we have a past record to prove this, but is this career right for you.

Carrying out four vital steps may help you with your decision.

  1. Come down to our office and see first hand how our school operates and how you would fit into our team.
  2. Write down as many questions you can think of to ask and I will give you a very honest answer. We are a local company and operate in your area we must be very transparent in everything we do.
  3. I will personally be conducting your Training sessions on a 1-1 basis so it is important that you know who I am and whether you feel we could work together as a team.
  4. Take a look at all the other Training companies and see what they have to offer and then you can make your comparison.

 

 

“Being made redundant after 24 years working for the same company I was unsure what to do to earn the money that I needed.

So when a chap I play squash with suggested I considered doing what he did 12 months previously - train to become a Driving Instructor - I thought it worth looking into.

Looking on t' interweb gave lots of good points about the job -

  • Be my own boss
  • Choose my own working hours
  • Choose my own holidays - both how many and when
  • Wear what I want to and not have to shave every day (after 38 years of suit and tie this was seriously a plus point!)
  • I could use my own car and claim the costs against my tax
  • Going with a Driving School will give me some customers
  • And I can of course get my own customers
  • And most importantly earnings - £25,000 to £45,000 is very realistic

And some not so good points -

  • No guaranteed income
  • My idea of working hours may not be my customers
  • I may have to pay a franchise fee or a commission to the driving school
  • To earn £45,000 I would have to work quite a lot of hours and get quite a lot of customers
  • And of course I would have to pay to learn with no guarantee of getting my Approved Driving Instructors licence

Nevertheless I decided it was worth further looking into and so I spoke to a number of individuals and bodies.  I spoke to a couple of Driving Instructors, the 2 big names in the business - Red and AA and some smaller local names including U Drive Driver Training who I finally chose.

So why U Drive Driver Training?  Well quite simply because (unlike all of the rest) there was absolutely no pressure nor commitment demanded off Ben (U Drive MD).  He said I would pay by the hour for training; do as much or as little as we both decided was necessary to pass Parts 1 and 2; I could stop whenever I wanted to; when I obtained my ADI licence he would only require 1 months’ notice to quit U Drive (the rest required a 12 month contract) and he seemed a genuinely nice guy.  So given my uncertainty this is why I chose U Drive.

I can honestly say that I believe I made the correct decision to become a Driving Instructor and the correct decision in going with U Drive Driver Training.  And if for some reason, I decide it wasn't, then all it will cost is 1 month's franchise fee.”
