Accelerated Learning System
Here I will explain how our Accelerated Learning System will be a massive benefit to you.
Unfortunately, it’s disturbing how many driving lessons lack any real structure; pupils are given no agreed objective and are just aimlessly driving around. Therefore, the progress of lessons cannot be measured properly and will lead to lack of progress, and a lot of frustration, not to mention wasted money.
Lessons that aren’t structured properly, often result in the pupil being given tuition in an area not suitable for there learning needs and and they can often be asked to drive on busy roads, when what they actually need is to be taken to a quiet area, so that they can develop their knowledge and skill level.
The grim reality is that we hear from pupils that they are being asked to drive in busy towns or on big roundabouts when they have not yet learnt the basics, this can lead to a massive loss of confidence and in some cases leading to the pupils terminating their lessons completely, which is a disaster.
Remarkably the first time pass rate in our area is less than 50%. It’s also hard to believe that 30% of learner drivers decide to change their driving instructor when learning to drive. This reflects very badly on the standard of driving lessons being conducted in our industry.
Accelerated Learning System what is it?
It is a system of teaching that encourages interaction between the driving instructor and the pupil. It is the method that is recommended by the governing body, the DVSA, to get the shortest learning time possible and therefore giving you the maximum value for money.
We have gone even further than the basic DVSA recommendations.
- All our driving lessons follow the DVSA recommendations of client centred learning.
- We ask every pupil for their feedback and monitor the standard of tuition our instructors are providing.
- We offer a full money back guarantee for any lesson you feel did not follow the procedure and did not give the highest standard of tuition.
How it Works
- At the beginning of the lesson there will be a discussion between yourself and your instructor to decide what you would like to work on during today's lesson. It maybe you would like to go back over a previously learnt topic for extra practice, or it maybe you would like to move on to something new. For example, if you decided to revisit a previous lesson topic, your instructor would discuss with you the reasons you would like to go back and target any concerns that you may have.
- Your instructor will ask you what it is you wish to gain out of revisiting the topic, and what parts are you unsure of. For example, if you are unsure of what speed to approach a roundabout, a plan of action will then be set out by your driving instructor, this will be your lessons objective. (It maybe that lesson has several objectives following on from each other especially on a 2 hour lesson.)
- Your instructor will then check you have full knowledge of the topic, this is very important, as driving around not having full knowledge of the theory behind the topic, can lead to frustration and very little progress will be made.
- Your instructor will then plan a suitable route and in this case will include several roundabouts so you can practice these and build your confidence, skills and understanding a safe speed on approach.
- You will be asked to stop from time to time to go through any concerns you may have and access your progress. You will be encouraged to take on more responsibility as this will help you work towards your lessons objective of understanding and achieving a safe speed to approach roundabouts.
- Once you have achieved your objective, you may then choose to tackle a new one or decide you would like to revisit another one and then you would repeat the process.
- At the end of the lesson the pupil would be asked how they thought they did today. Our instructor would listen to the answer and have a Q&A session about the lesson. We would reflect on the objective(s) and whether they had been achieved or not, if not, why not? What was improved and what needs further development in the pupil’s opinion? An objective would be set for next weeks lesson.
All our driving instructors participate in continuing professional development courses, to ensure they are performing to the same high standard that I would deliver personally, throughout the U Drive Driver Training team.
Each pupil is asked to fill out a feedback form and we use this to either send praise to the individual instructor, or offer continued training to ensure we maintain a very high standard throughout.
